Studio Ghibli fans can add a handful of Steelbook Edition Blu-ray and DVD combo packs to their collection for low prices during Amazon’s Black Friday sale, including several of the best films directed by Hayao Miyazaki. My Neighbor Totoro, Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind, and Princess Mononoke Steelbooks are discounted to only $16.19. You can also get The Secret World of Arietty Steelbook Edition for the same price. And if you haven’t picked up Shout Factory’s 2025 rerelease of Grave of the Fireflies, you can grab the Steelbook Edition for only $13.49.
Meanwhile, the standard Blu-ray edition of The Boy and the Heron is discounted to $16.49, and Miyazaki’s directorial debut, Lupin the 3rd: The Castle of Cagliostro, is on sale for $18 on Blu-ray and $21 on 4K Blu-ray. Lupin the 3rd isn’t a Ghibli movie, but it’s definitely worth watching if you’re a fan of Miyazaki’s work.
In addition to the collectible case, each Blu-ray and DVD combo pack movie includes special features and an exclusive booklet with creator commentary, storyboards, and concept art. The booklets are also included with the standard Blu-ray editions.
Including the aforementioned three, there are eight Studio Ghibli movies written and directed by Hayao Miyazaki in matching Steelbook Editions for $19 or less: Spirited Away, Ponyo, My Neighbor Totoro, Howl’s Moving Castle, Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind, Princess Mononoke, Porco Rosso, and The Wind Rises.
Those eight Miyazaki-directed movies and most of the other Steelbook Editions in Shout Factory’s Ghibli catalog follow the same design aesthetic: a vibrant, solid background color with character art in the middle (as shown above). The Boy and the Heron and Grave of the Fireflies are the exceptions to this rule. The Boy and the Heron, the first and only Studio Ghibli movie on 4K Blu-ray, depicts a full scene on its steelbook cover. The Boy and the Heron’s 4K Steelbook Edition is discounted to $28 (was $45).
Shout Factory took the same approach with Grave of the Fireflies when the 1989 film returned to Blu-ray this summer after being out of print for years. As mentioned, Grave of the Fireflies Steelbook Edition is discounted to an all-time low price of $13.49 (was $27) for Black Friday.
We also included the upcoming Steelbook Edition of The Castle of Cagliostro in the list above. As noted above, it’s not a Ghibli movie–it released before Studio Ghibli existed–the 1979 animated film was Hayao Miyazaki’s directorial debut. The Castle of Cagliostro Steelbook Edition is exclusive to Crunchyroll and releases December 15.
Studio Ghibli Blu-ray Box Sets (Walmart Exclusive)

Walmart has exclusive Studio Ghibli Blu-ray box sets featuring movies written and directed by Hayao Miyazaki. The Studio Ghibli 4-Film Set appears to have just launched. Priced at $37, this collection comes with the standard edition Blu-ray and DVD combo packs of Castle in the Sky, Kiki’s Delivery Service, Ponyo, and My Neighbor Totoro. Each movie is packaged in its own plastic case, and you still get the booklets for all four. Other than saving some cash, the only difference here is you get an oversized slipcover featuring the cover art for all four movies.
There are three Studio Ghibli 2-Film Sets at Walmart. Princess Mononoke and Nausicaa and the Valley of the Wind are bundled together for $20. You can also get Howl’s Moving Castle with Spirited Away for $23. The third set includes two films found in the 4-Film Set: My Neighbor Totoro and Ponyo for $20.
How to Complete your Studio Ghibli Collection

Some of Shout Factory’s Steelbook Editions are out of print, including Castle in the Sky, Studio Ghibli’s first film. The fantasy adventure was written and directed by Miyazaki in 1986. For context, Miyazaki’s 1984 film Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind, while branded as a Ghibli film these days, premiered the year prior to Studio Ghibli’s founding.
One of the films Miyazaki wrote but didn’t direct, Whisper of the Heart, is also out of print. The Steelbook Edition of Whisper of the Heart’s 2002 spin-off The Cat Returns is no longer available either.
Thankfully, Castle in the Sky and Whisper of the Heart have standard editions for $16-$19 each. You can complete the Studio Ghibli filmography by picking up the standard Blu-ray editions of The Cat Returns, Pom Poko, The Red Turtle, My Neighbors the Yamadas, Ocean Waves, and Tales from Earthsea.
Below, you’ll find Studio Ghibli’s complete filmography in standard edition Blu-ray and DVD combo packs. You’ll also find two 4K movies on the list below: The Boy and the Heron’s standard 4K Blu-ray and Lupin the 3rd: The Castle of Cagliostro. As mentioned above, it’s not a Ghibli movie, but it was directed by Hayao Miyazaki.
Some of the newer standard editions come with cardboard sleeves, and most are made by Shout Factory, but there are still some Blu-rays lingering around from the days when Disney distributed Studio Ghibli movies on Blu-ray and DVD.
Studio Ghibli Movies on DVD
If you don’t mind watching DVDs, you can find some of Studio Ghibli’s best movies on DVD for under 10 bucks. Just keep in mind you won’t get the booklet that comes with Blu-ray and DVD combo packs.
Hayao Miyazaki’s Manga & Studio Ghibli Film Comics

Miyazaki fans should also check out the Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind Manga Box Set. It’s the only manga series authored by Miyazaki. Naturally, the seven-volume series has plenty of material that didn’t make it into the film adaptation. The box set collects the entire run into two hardcover books totaling 1,104 pages. The slipcased set is on sale for $47.89 (was $80) at Amazon. You can also get Shuna’s Journey, a manga written and illustrated in watercolor by Miyazaki, for over 50% off. First published in 1983, the moving tale finally received an English translation in 2022.
A handful of Studio Ghibli hits have been adapted into comics over the years. Up until last year, many individual volumes of the Film Comics were difficult because they were out of print. Viz Media’s new All-in-One Editions have brought the Film Comics back to life as budget-friendly hardcover books. Film Comic adaptations of Spirited Away, My Neighbor Totoro, Kiki’s Delivery Service, and Ponyo are available now. Each book is comprised of still images from the movies alongside text that tells the full story in a different medium.
You can also preorder the All-in-One Editions of Princess Mononoke and Castle in the Sky Film Comics ahead of their releases next year.
