HMD’s New Terra M is a Rugged Feature Phone, but You Probably Won’t Be Able to Buy One

Published on:

Finnish phone manufacturer HMD has announced an upcoming feature phone which it dubs the Terra M, an ultra-rugged feature phone specifically designed for the enterprise market. Unlike your typical consumer smartphone, the Terra M is built for business use with an added dash of durability for good measure.

In terms of design, the Terra M comes with military-grade MIL-STD-810 certification and IP68/69K protection against dust and high-pressure water, giving it a chunky exterior that can withstand knocks and bumps. Like most other feature phones, it comes with a keypad, a small display, although HMD has seen fit to add dedicated programmable push-to-talk and emergency buttons.

The phone runs on a custom operating system with pre-loaded apps for communication and enterprise enrolment, with support for mobile device management (MDM) for secure fleet deployment. Connectivity includes 4G, VoLTE, VoWi-Fi, and eSIM functionality, and there’s a 2510mAh battery with a standby time of up to ten days.

HMD will also offer rugged accessories like a belt holster and a stackable wireless charging dock, which should be announced alongside the phone once it arrives in Q1 2026.
