Google makes it easy to turn a selfie into a unique and fun Wear OS watch face

Published on:

Wear OS smartwatches come with a range of watch face options. And just in case you need more, you can always go with something from a third party like Facer. However, if you’re looking for something that’s just a touch more personal, you’ll now have another option that comes straight from Google.

The brand announced that it would be leveraging its Androidify app, giving Wear OS users a chance to create their own custom watch faces. This app can take a selfie, and transform the subject into an Android bot using Gemini, which can then become a part of Wear OS watch face.

It’s personal

Google is using some old tricks mixed with new ones to make this feature happen, and we get the feeling that some people are going to have a lot of fun with this. If you’re curious about how all of this gets done in the background, you can head to the Developer blog where there’s a pretty thorough write-up.

There’s also a video as well if you’re not looking to really go through all of that. For the most part, this is just a nice light addition, which can be perfect for the holidays.

I thought Androidify was no more

If you’ve never heard of Androidify before, this is an app that was once cut from Google’s lineup back in 2020, but then brought back again in September 2025. The new version was much more powerful, utilizing Gemini in order to create fun Android creations from selfies. You could even animate the selfie in fun ways.

So, while Google is showcasing the app here with Wear OS, it’s not exclusive to wearables. You can freely turn any selfie and just share that with friends and family if you want. However, if you have a Wear OS smartwatch, you’ll now get a bonus feature that will let you upload your creation to your watch.

Again, it’s just something light, just in time for the holidays that some people might find fun. You can download Androidify from the Google Play Store. And if you haven’t already, we also recommend checking out the updated Facer app, which can be found on the Google Play Store as well, that was revamped for Wear OS 6 and provides access to a whole new library of watch faces.
